photoshop CS4, SAI, about 20 hours of work and lots of lychee drinks used. I made this illustration for 3DTotal's Manga Book as a part of digital tutorial! Featuring 's OC, Clye c: Can't wait to see the tutorial printed! : ) hope You'll like it! I would really appreciate if You comment this picture, I worked really hard on it : )
This is image was created for 3DTotal.com Publishing who will be releasing a beginners Guide to manga book at the start of 2012. Keep watching [link] for details.
I'll start by saying that this is a theme that I wish more artists would explore: dreams, that is. It's an opportunity to let loose and really exercise your creative muscles. And you have done that very well indeed.
The Lychee theme is what turns this from a pinup and into a surreal scene. The (relatively) small detail of her sitting on a giant lychee berry floating inside an even bigger berry pushes the scene straight into the dreamlands.
The more limited color pallet and use of vibrant colors also makes it obvious that this is a dream, not reality. And the skin tones are beautifully rendered!
The one detail that really captured my interest was how certain things in the piece seem to glob together and float away, and get fuzzy, as well as having her hair float around. it gives the piece a sense of weightlessness (I'm sure you were going for just that) and an aura of complete relaxation.
You have successfully transported your viewer out of reality.
